Bars and restaurants in New York are busy into the night all week. For New Yorkers, nightlife is not something you save for the weekend, and this gives the city a nice ambiance at night. It is especially great in the summer; in the tropical nights the streets sparkle with life.
My husband, Jens, and I went out on a Thursday night with friends to Charlie Bird for dinner and afterwards jazz at the Blue Note.
Charlie Bird was such a good experience! We ate family-style, which I always love, as there is the opportunity to taste more dishes; this night we tried eight. The food was very well-prepared and tasteful, with a great selection of wines. The menu is made from local ingredients, with an inspiration from the Italian kitchen. The atmosphere in the night at Charlie Bird is vibrant and, as they describe it, “a place to celebrate life with what we know best – food and drink”.
To shoot pictures I always prefer to have an empty restaurant, so I went back to Charlie Bird again with my partner Brian during daytime to have lunch and get some nice images. The lunch was good and they played hip-hop music that reminded me of my earlier days.
Blue Note has been on my to-do list since we moved here but somehow I I had never been there. We went to hear a jazz musician called Christian Scott. The walls are filled with old pictures of jazz and blues musicians and the place has a special atmosphere; if you are a music fan it’s definitely worth a visit.
