My partner, Brian, has been going to Evolution on Spring Street for over twenty years, and it has been one of my family’s favorite NYC shops since we arrived. Enjoy a stroll through the museum-like atmosphere and wonder at the amazing collection of science and natural history collectables and artifacts. It is a great place to find gifts and especially small treasures, if, like us, you are tired of the plastic and trivial gizmos kids are usually given for their birthdays.

All of their specimens are legally obtained, and they are affiliated with several scientific organizations, and licensed by all the necessary organizations. In addition, they work with several educational organizations to teach kids about zoology and paleontology. This is very important to me as I do not want to be do business with a store that is any way detrimental to wildlife or science.

When visiting Evolution I recommend you spice up your experience with a cupcake from Georgetown Cupcakes on Mercer Street, around the corner. This is the only New York branch of a great cupcake chain that started in Washington DC’s very nice Georgetown neighborhood. They are my favorite cupcakes in the city and they’re a great treat to bring home and to spoil the kids with after school.
